During the filming of "Mission: Impossible — Dead Reckoning Part One" in early 2020, whispers began circulating that Tom Cruise and Hayley Atwell might be more than just colleagues.
An insider shared with The Sun that the duo seemed close from the get-go, even suggesting they were spending intimate moments at Cruise's London residence.
However, despite other sources, including People, refuting these claims, the duo's appearance together at Wimbledon in 2021 only intensified the speculation.
They were rumored to have split that year but reconciled in 2022, only to part ways again soon after. Neither party confirmed or refuted these claims, but Atwell finally spoke about the rumors in a July 2023 interview with The Independent.
She expressed her discomfort with the rumors, stating, "I would be like, 'Ooh, there's some weird rumours, and it feels base, it feels a little dirty, it feels grubby, it's not what I'm about.'" She further questioned why assumptions were being made about her relationship with her colleague and superior.
Cruise's Supportive Stance
In a similar vein to her conversation with The Independent, Atwell, known for her role in "Captain America," revealed to Country & Town House that Cruise was supportive during these trying times. He emphasized the importance of her feeling secure. Atwell also shed light on her platonic relationships with Cruise and director Christopher Mcquarrie, highlighting the "extraordinary power of platonic love."
Atwell's Engagement
While Atwell and Cruise might never have been a couple, Atwell is no longer available. In April 2023, she received a surprise proposal in Italy from her music producer boyfriend, Ned Wolfgang Kelly.
The announcement was made on Instagram, where Kelly described their unique engagement setting filled with porcelain ducks and an accordion player outside their window. Atwell later shared with the Daily Mail the significance of Venice in their relationship.
Despite the couple's preference for privacy, Kelly hasn't shied away from praising Atwell on Instagram, and he accompanied her to the premiere of "Mission: Impossible — Dead Reckoning Part One."
