Stepdad Drowns Boy Who Loved Water: Father Speaks Out

Discover the heartbreaking story of a 6-year-old who loved water but met a tragic end. What his father and foster mom revealed will shock you.

Anthony Rouse was a 6-year-old boy who loved the water, a passion that makes his tragic drowning death all the more devastating. According to police reports, Anthony was allegedly drowned by his stepfather. His biological mother and stepfather, Alize and Tre Seymore, are now facing first-degree murder charges in connection with his death in April.

A Father and Foster Mother Share Fond Memories

Before the tragedy, Anthony was described as a "really happy baby" who enjoyed swimming and fishing. His father, Andre Rouse, and his foster mother, Kasee Metzger, both shared their memories of the young boy. Metzger, who had fostered Anthony for a few months during his infancy, said, "He really liked the water, he liked to swim. We took him to my mom’s house for his second birthday party because she has a pool, and he really liked to be around the water."

Uncovering a History of Abuse

As the police delved deeper into the case, they discovered evidence of long-term abuse that Anthony allegedly endured at the hands of the Seymores. An affidavit reviewed by PEOPLE alleged that Anthony was beaten and confined in a dog cage. It also stated that his siblings were bribed with "rewards" to participate in the abuse. Anthony died within several months of being in the Seymores' custody.

A Father's Last Conversation with His Son

Andre Rouse, who had raised Anthony for much of his last four years, described his son as "an energetic person." Andre, a commercial fisherman, often took his son fishing. He vividly remembers his last conversation with Anthony, who had requested a Nintendo Switch and Paw Patrol games for his upcoming birthday. The most poignant part of their final conversation was a difficult goodbye, as Andre had to leave for a fishing trip. Anthony pleaded with his father not to go, saying, "C’mon Daddy, don’t do me like that. Let’s go fishing!" By the time Andre returned, Anthony had passed away.

Police Suspicions and Medical Concerns

On April 22, police responded to a 911 call at the Seymore residence. The couple initially claimed that Anthony had died by suicide. However, suspicions arose when staff from two different hospitals observed signs of possible long-term abuse, including scars. Anthony was declared dead two days later.

The Aftermath: A Father's Grief and Ongoing Legal Proceedings

The loss of his son has had a profound impact on Andre's mental health and livelihood. He recently suffered an accidental cut on his finger, attributing the incident to his inability to "stop thinking about this situation." Andre stated, "Nobody is prepared to lose a child like how I lost him."

As for the Seymores, they are currently being held without bond and face multiple charges, including first-degree murder and child abuse. It remains unclear whether they have entered pleas or retained legal representation.
