Gadar 2 Creates Box Office History: Rs 133 Cr in Opening Weekend
Gadar 2, starring the iconic duo, Sunny Deol and Ameesha Patel, has taken the box office by storm. The film, marking the return of the beloved characters Tara Singh and Sakeena, has not only shattered records but also positioned itself as one of the highest Bollywood grossers for its opening weekend.
A Stellar Performance at the Box Office
The film's journey at the box office has been nothing short of spectacular. After a grand opening with Rs 40 crore, it continued its momentum by raking in Rs 43 crore on Saturday. By the third day, Gadar 2's collection soared to a whopping Rs 50 crore, bringing its total earnings for the weekend to an impressive Rs 133 crore.
This achievement is even more commendable considering it managed to outshine other releases, including Shah Rukh Khan’s Pathaan. Despite facing competition from films like OMG 2 and Rocky Aur Rani Kii Prem Kahaani, Gadar 2 has remained unbeatable.
Delving into the Plot
The film is set against the intense backdrop of the 1971 Indo-Pak war. The sequel showcases Tara Singh (Sunny Deol) and Sakeena (Ameesha Patel) in marital bliss. Their son, Charan Jeet Singh, portrayed by Utkarsh Sharma (who also played the child's role in the original 2001 Gadar), is now an adult. However, a twist in the tale sees Charan Jeet in Pakistan, facing dire circumstances. The gripping trailer hints at Tara's daring journey back to Pakistan to rescue his son.
Industry and Audience Reception
The film's success isn't just reflected in its box office numbers. It has also received an overwhelming response in terms of advance bookings, with almost all theatres in metro cities running houseful shows.
Celebrities too have joined the audience in showering their love and admiration for the film. Bollywood superstar Salman Khan took to Instagram to praise the film, equating Sunny Deol's iconic "Dhai kilo ka haath" to the film's massive opening. Furthermore, Sunny’s half-sister, Esha Deol, organized a special screening, which saw the Deol family come together for a rare joint appearance.
