Jennifer Garner Returns as Elektra in 'Deadpool 3' after 20 Years

Jennifer Garner is set to reprise her iconic role as Elektra in the highly anticipated film 'Deadpool 3', marking a nostalgic return to the character nearly two decades after her appearance in the 2003 film 'Daredevil' alongside Ben Affleck.

This news was confirmed by both The Hollywood Reporter and a reliable source close to the project, who revealed the casting details to PEOPLE. The production of 'Deadpool 3', which is currently underway in London, falls under the umbrella of Disney and the Marvel Cinematic Universe. The movie stars Ryan Reynolds as Deadpool and features the return of Hugh Jackman as Wolverine.

While Disney and Jennifer Garner's representatives have not yet responded to requests for official confirmation, fans can certainly look forward to seeing the talented actress back in action as Elektra. Garner, who is now 51 years old, initially portrayed the lethal assassin in 'Daredevil' and subsequently starred in her standalone film 'Elektra' released in 2005.

In a previous interview with THR, Garner expressed her disappointment with the reception of her standalone Elektra movie, particularly after witnessing the remarkable success of subsequent Marvel films produced by Kevin Feige, the President of Marvel Studios. Garner acknowledged the significant improvements in writing, direction, and comedic elements in the stories brought to life under Feige's leadership, which she believes were absent during her tenure.

Directed by Shawn Levy, who previously collaborated with Garner and Reynolds on the Netflix film 'The Adam Project', 'Deadpool 3' promises to deliver a thrilling and humorous cinematic experience. Garner recently shared her challenges while working on the original Elektra project in an interview with Glamour. She reminisced about the struggles of wearing the tight-fitting costume, stating that she had to be meticulously fitted into the pleather pants, requiring a time-consuming process of cutting her out and sewing her back in whenever she needed to use the restroom. Additionally, Garner underwent extensive martial arts training to proficiently wield the sai weapons for her character.

Garner humorously admitted, "I was just this close to a wardrobe malfunction at all times. There's not enough tape in the world to make this stuff safe." Despite the difficulties, she fully embraced the role, further highlighting her dedication and commitment to bringing Elektra to life on the big screen.

'Deadpool 3' is currently scheduled for release on May 3, 2024, and fans are eagerly anticipating Jennifer Garner's return as Elektra, anticipating an unforgettable performance that pays homage to her earlier portrayal while embracing the evolution of the character within the Marvel Cinematic Universe.
