In the scorching heat of the Californian sun, an Amazon driver found a refreshing surprise. As he made his rounds, a homeowner had left a note inviting him to take a dip in their pool. The note read, "If you want to go for a swim, you are welcome to." And he did.
The driver, without hesitation, placed his phone and keys on a table and dove into the pool, fully clothed. He didn't even bother to take off his hat or Amazon vest.
Meanwhile, in Phoenix, another example of Americans helping one another in the great heatwave of 2023 was observed. A Good Samaritan noticed his mail carrier in distress and ran to her assistance. The mail carrier, who was pregnant, was having a hard time with her deliveries on Day 26 of unrelenting 100-degree heat.
In Florida, people were flabbergasted that the water off Manatee Bay was as hot as a hot tub. The stunning temperature of 101 degrees was the hottest sea surface temperature ever recorded on the planet. It was actually hotter in the ocean than many hot tubs.
Our correspondent, Allison Hall, at Great Jones Spa in Manhattan, confirmed that around 102 degrees is the sweet spot for hot tubs, which is what the water in Florida felt like at the time.
In an alarming moment on Capitol Hill, Majority Leader Mitch McConnell froze mid-sentence and stood without speaking for 23 seconds. CNN's Dr. Sanjay Gupta suggested that it could have been dehydration or, more seriously, a mini-stroke.
As the heatwave continues to grip the nation, these incidents serve as a reminder of the importance of staying hydrated and taking necessary precautions to stay safe in the extreme heat.
